Tuning Forks & Harmonics for Health

Tuning Forks: What a blessing and encouragement they are. I have been using tuning forks for around 2 years now and have had some amazing results.  From pain relief to the freedom of movement. In the emotional arena numbers have found instant relief and clarity with hope and excitement being an added bonus.  I have received my training through Christi Bonds-Garrett M.A., M.D., FCC, CAP) -AromaSounds. Gail Hunter (practitioner) has traveled from America several offering tuition and certification.

See below: Tuning Forks & Harmonics for Health

How does one describe the power and effect of a Vibrational Raindrop (use of tuning forks with the Raindrop Technique) - I can't really, but I have found an excellent article that says it so much better than I ever could. It brings with it the understanding of why such a technique is so beneficial.

I encourage you to read it through - I promise you if you haven't been this way before it will stretch your thinking and probably your faith.

When I first started out on this amazing journey of understanding how everything is created with a vibration and the effects of those resulting sounds - even the effects of my own voice, I was astounded and continue to be so. It causes me to realise a little bit more each day how wonderfully we are made and this huge creation that was formed for us to live in.

You will come across some words, as you read, that because of your faith perspective, may have been or are still a 'no-no'. I have had to come to a place of confidence and then walk out, what I now believe, is a wonderful form of healing that has be ignored and even reviled. I am finding the journey exciting, it has extended my own faith, and if I am being truly honest, I now realise, just how much many of us have been 'robbed' of understanding ourselves, and our Creator and His profound love for us

I encourage you to take the information below and weigh it – if you can’t agree or don’t have understanding to have an opinion. Park it! And continue to do your own research. The day will come when you will have your own opinion, and that will come about because you took the time to look, your time, and you care enough to do so. Happy hunting!

Let’s look as some of the ‘tricky’ words in this article:

Aura: Electromagnetic fields

In scientific research we have found that the aura is electromagnetic field of energy that extends all around our body for about 4-5feet (in an average healthy body) and appears to be depleted in cases of unhealthy person.  - I now realise why people give off 'vibes' and why)

The aura of a person is directly connected to the level of health of the person. A person is considered to be Healthy in terms of Physical vitality, mental clarity, emotional well-being as well as highly positive spiritual energies. So a person who is healthy at all these levels has a bigger and brighter aura and vice versa in the case of an unhealthy person. -

Etheric Level: It concerns relational ties with one another – both positive and negative – which can affect one physically.

Sine waves: The sine wave or sinusoid is a mathematical curve that describes a smooth repetitive oscillation. It is named after the function sine. It occurs often in pure and applied mathematics, as well as physics, engineering, signal processing and many other fields. -Wikipedia

Meridians: Energy that flows through the body – breath, food, light, darkness etc. moves and spreads in the body through channels called meridians and smaller channels known as collateral’s. There are 12 main meridians and 14 extra meridians that chi flows through. Most individuals cannot see ‘chi’ energy but they can feel it. When everything is going well we feel a sense of elation – that is ‘chi’ when everything continues to go wrong, despite our best efforts, that is also ‘chi’, but in this case negative chi. Unlike the veins that our blood flows through, meridians are throughout the entire body, but rather than fluid they deal more with energy and states of consciousness. – Viscambio.

(Personal note - Caroline) I understand the use of the words such as ‘chi’, ‘shu’, ‘shiatsu’ and others, are descriptive words, used by Oriental countries and have been retained by practitioners and those who partake of various alternative lifestyles in Western countries. We, in the ‘West’, until recently, had no way of describing these life-giving processes and so continued to use the terms used in the Orient which added to the skepticism and fear of many. It is only in recent years, through scientific discovery, that we have been given the needed proof and understanding, that energy like meridians, etheric levels and auras, do actually exist and they have actually been created, for us to maintain our health, enabling us live in preventative well-being. I suggest it is because we have determinedly gone after the pharmaceutical way of managing our personal sickness that we regard all this, as ‘alternative health’ and therefore definitely suspect, at the very least.
I ask the question, "Why isn't the pharmaceutical regime referred to as, ‘alternative’?"

Reflexology: Sometimes the body is in a state of ‘imbalance’ following illness or injury, disease or stress and energy pathways are blocked preventing the body from functioning effectively. The use of precision pressure movements on the hands, feet, or ears, allows the whole body to relax and de-stress, restoring and maintaining the body’s natural equilibrium and encouraging healing. - Reflexology NZ.

Similar points and many more, are used in VitaFlex (See VitaFlex page).

Sympathetic Resonance: Sympathetic resonance or sympathetic vibration is a harmonic phenomenon wherein a formerly passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness. The classic example is demonstrated with two similar tuning-forks of which one is mounted on a wooden box. If the other one is struck and then placed on the box, then muted, the un-struck mounted fork will be heard – Wikipedia

When we meet somebody special or do something just right, we experience resonance. The longer lasting and deeper the experience of resonance, the more ecstatic we become. Our language is filled with words that ring with the taste of resonance. "Being in tune" or "we are on the same wave length" describe resonate experiences. Making the connection, being in the groove, or just plain "wow!" are further examples. When something is just right we say "it clicks." John Beaulieu, N.D., Ph.D.

Oils too resonate. Their own vibrations resonate with a person, bringing harmony, alignment and healing.

Something I find interesting, is that we readily accept that electrical devices in our homes, such as TV's, radios, phones and microwaves emit electromagnetic vibrational frequencies (and these are negative). But we (myself included, till recently) struggle to accept, that we as human beings, also have electromagnetic systems and we therefore, miss the wonder and power of them in our lives and fail to understand and utilize them for our own good

(Many organisations now call 'chakras', the 'Electromagnetic Systems or Fields') A more acceptable term to many.  I appreciate Dr Stewart's teaching and understanding, as he gives a clear rendition of his findings

The following article is by David Stewart, PhD.

Chakras are not "New Age." They are Old Age being rediscovered. They are mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The Jews even have a symbolic representation for the seven Chakras in their Menorah of seven candles, the centre one representing the heart chakra.

The first thing to understand is that we all possess an electromagnetic field in which our physical bodies are immersed. Even the medical and biological professions acknowledge that human beings have, not only a physical body of flesh and fluids, but also a subtle electromagnetic field upon which their physical body is superimposed.

Physicians measure your electromagnetic (EM) field to detect problems with your heart and brain by means of EKGs (Electrocardiograms) and EEGs (Electroencephalograms), but they don't understand, nor utilize, the connections of our EM bodies to our physical bodies in a way to provide pathways to healing. They don't understand that physical maladies, conditions, and sicknesses usually show up as irregularities in our EM field before they manifest physically. They are unaware of the connection between our minds and feelings to our electromagnetic field and how the condition of the EM Field affects our physical well-being.

Chakras are electromagnetic centres along the spine of our EM fields. They are the dynamic, functional organs of our EM body, which is a template that causes our physical bodies to materialize and manifest as it does. It is also through the EM Field that our physical bodies are energized and are enabled to maintain a healthy state directly from God's consciousness. The Bible says, in both Old and New Testaments, "Man shall not live by bread, alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." Deut 8:3 and Matt 4:4. The phrase, "By every word..." is in reference to God's constant and continuous vibrational energy that emanates from Him constantly, which permeates the universe Omni-presently, and which maintains us as living, conscious beings. If God’s constant attention on his created worlds flickered, even for one second, the universe and everything in it, including us, would vanish. Psalm 121:3-4

It is that subtle EM field, a living spark of Gods consciousness, that ignites the life of a new human being at conception, that provides the pattern for the union of a sperm and an egg from a man and a woman to assemble into a complete body, molecule by molecule, cell by cell, into a completely ordered physical form. Without the electromagnetic blueprint enshrouding the developing foetus in the womb, the dividing cells would not know into which organs to differentiate and arrange them-selves to form a complete, functional living body. Without the electromagnetic body, we would have no physical body. When we die from this physical form, we become aware of our EM body, which is a body of light and energy. Our bodies of light are usually not seen by us when we are living in the physical plain encased in flesh, but our etheric body becomes quite visible to us when we discard our material frame at death.

Some people call our electromagnetic body our "astral body," our "ethereal body," our "spiritual body," or our "heavenly body." A part of it can sometimes be seen as a golden "halo" around the heads or upper-bodies of spiritual people. We use and employ that energetic body constantly and daily, even though few people are consciously aware of it. That is where our long term memory is stored which we take with us at death when the physical brain and body cease to function and decay. When we die, we lose our physical brain. But we will know and recognize our friends and relatives in the after-life. So how can we remember and recognize our loved ones in the world hereafter if our long-term memory were tied to a physical brain, which we will no longer have.

Our short term memory is in our physical brain, which is our hard drive, but our long term memory is in the "subtle cloud" around us which we can access when living in our physical bodies like a computer accesses the ambient universe of the internet. But when we shake the mortal frame and become aware of our energy bodies, we don't need a physical instrument (a brain) to access our etheric memory because we are living as energy in a cloud of energy, no longer bound by physical limitations.

The fact that short-term memory is in the cerebral matter of the physical brain, while our long-term memory is stored in our electric field that survives death, explains why elderly people will/can often recall memories of long ago, even in their childhoods, but may not be able to remember what happened yesterday, or even five minutes ago. While their short-term memory is not working well because their physical brain may have aged somewhat and lost function, the long-term memory in their EM field is fully intact. As people age and approach their final days or years, they may gradually grow more attuned to their etheric body and gain increasing access their permanent memories, which have been stored electronically as energy. As one detaches one's self from the physical body, they usually gain greater access to their energetic body and the memories stored there.

The principal functional organs of your etheric body are the seven "chakras," as they are called in Sanskrit in India. But the word, "chakra" in Sanskrit simply means "wheel." This is appropriate since the chakras are all circular in appearance and contain geometric shapes and colours in their detail that could be likened to petals of a flower, spokes of a wheel, or points of a star. I prefer to call them "electromagnetic centres," which are to our heavenly body what the various ganglionic centres are to our physical body.

(Among vertebrates there are three major groups of ganglia:

They are intelligent, switching, coordinating, and routing centres for our electromagnetic (EM) bodies and perform functions that keep our physical bodies functioning in contact with God's vital life force. ("wheel" or "turning", a better translation of the word is 'vortex or whirlpool'. (Google))

Chakras are simply a part of our electromagnetic physiology. We all have chakras or we wouldn’t be alive. To be fearful of the word “chakra,” or to be afraid to explore what they are and how they are a part of every human being, is like being afraid of your navel or your toe nails. They are essential features of your energetic anatomy. Everyone has a set of seven chakras, be they Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, or whatever. Some religious systems recognize them and understand their spiritual implications and some don’t. But they are still there for everyone. The more you know and understand what they really are, the closer you can draw to God, whose essence is spirit. Now for the article:

Tuning Forks and Harmonics for Health

Tuning forks emit pure sounds, that are represented as pure sine (pattern that repeats) waves, without any harmonics. They can be used in a great variety of ways.

To activate a tuning fork, one holds the single stem, and strikes the fork on a block of hard rubber or wood covered in leather or fabric. Make sure the surface cannot scratch the fork. Strike in such a way that only one of the two prongs touches the striking block, that is, at 90º to the surface.

Firstly let’s look at how the forks can be used on the physical body. The stem of the activated fork can be placed on the bones and articulations (the site of the junction or union of two or more bones of the body) to restore movement and flexibility, and aid the development of connective tissue. They stimulate the flow of lymph and blood to the area of application thereby speeding up the healing process, and promote deep relaxation and the elimination of built up stress and toxins from the joints.

For those who have a working knowledge of the meridians, or using a clear and simple chart, the forks can serve as tools for vibratory acupressure. Using the “shu” points, which are the master points of each meridian, the Shiatsu points, reflexology points of the feet or spine, and other reflex points on the body, a vibratory signal can be sent more strongly and rapidly with a tuning fork than with a needle.

Both Fabien Maman (author of ‘Music and Sound in the 21st Century), and Hans Cousto (author of “The Cosmic Octave”) support the use of forks directly on the body, as do I. All the organs can be tuned in this way.

Given our vibratory nature and that of the forks, it is fast and effective through sympathetic resonance to bring each meridian and its corresponding organ/s back into harmony.

Placing the activated fork near the ears (no closer than 5cms) helps also to balance and regulate the metabolism of all the organs, which have a direct link to the auditory nerve. This also has a powerful regulatory effect on the entire nervous system, creating deep relaxation or stimulation, depending on which forks are used.

We can also use the forks very effectively in the electromagnetic fields around the body, known also as the subtle energy bodies or aura. As is the case with the physical organs, sets of tuning forks have been created specifically for the 7 major chakras. Chakras are spinning vortices of energy which correspond with and are located in the area of the major glands. They are visible to some people, and can be detected with modern equipment. The vibrating forks can be held or moved in a circular way around each chakra. Be aware that the chakras extend out from the body both in front of and behind each one of us. The subtle bodies are divided into layers, the first three of which most concern us at the present time of our evolution. In order of closeness to the body they are the etheric, the emotional or astral, and the mental energy layers. Tuning forks can be used to entrain the chakra or energy layer in which the fork is vibrating, harmonizing, balancing and assisting in the release of stuck energy which may have accumulated in the area.

Two tuning forks can be used simultaneously or consecutively to apply specific musical intervals the zone in question. Each musical interval (an interval is the name given to the distance between any two musical notes e.g. the 5th, the 6th, the 3rd and so on) affects the emotional, mental and physical body in a different way. Some intervals have a calming, tranquilizing effect and others a stimulating or activating effect. Yet others create tension, release or other reactions. There are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ intervals, they all have an effect which can be used in Sound Therapy depending on the desired result.

Fabien Maman and John Beaulieu (author of Sound and Music in the Healing Arts) have each developed their own system for using forks in this way, as have Michêle Averard (my wife and partner in Sound) and I.

John Beaulieu has actually invented some of the most commonly used forks. These include the Otto forks and the Solar Harmonic Spectrum. The Otto Forks are octaves of the note ‘C’, and the three forks are C: 32Hz, 64Hz, and 128Hz (Hz stands for Hertz after the discoverer, and means cycles per second). The Solar Harmonic Spectrum is a set of 8 forks reflecting the natural octave: Do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, do. It was Pythagoras who discovered the Harmonic Series or Overtone Series, and this scale forms the basis of the original 8-note octave used in Solfeggio. In the Anglo Saxon countries this is represented by the letters C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. This set is ideal for applying the different musical intervals directly to the body, made more effective when the forks are weighted at the ends, or in the subtle bodies, for which weighted forks are not necessary. With these 8 forks it’s possible to create all the major intervals, the 2nd DO:RE, 3rd DO:MI, 4th DO:FA, 5th DO:SOL, and so on.

The Swiss mathematician and Sound Therapist Hans Cousto presents in his book a whole system of planetary forks for healing. He calculated the solar year of each planet, that is, the time it takes to circle once around the sun, and converted the resulting figure into an audible tone. The most well-known and commonly used of these forks is the “OM” fork, or Earth Year Tone fork. This is a wonderful tone close to C# (C-sharp) that can be used for just about everything. Because we live on an enormous vibrating body, the Earth, it is obvious, given the laws of sympathetic resonance that we are vibrating in harmony with the Earth’s major cycles. The Solar year is the most vital of these cycles. Of course, when we become ill, our vibration becomes distorted or ‘dissonant’, and loses harmony with this cycle. The OM fork works to return this harmonious vibration to our entire system, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It can be used first near the ears, so the sound travels through the body and brain from the auditory nerve. It can then be used in the subtle energy bodies, and finally on the bones and meridians of the physical body. As with all the forks, it is most effective if one hums the tone of the fork with one’s own voice. This increases the power of the treatment substantially.

Tuning forks create a bridge between Sound and structure. They are material or physical in nature, yet vibrate strongly enough to transmit that vibration. They also vibrate, as does the human body, according to specific harmonic proportions which reflect the geometry of their structure. The phenomenon of sympathetic resonance is reinforced by their use on or around the body. From atom to molecule to cells and DNA, the body is constructed from geometric shapes which fit together to form the whole. The tuning forks, by closely matching some of the most vital of these natural ratios, is able to “entrain” (To pull or draw along after itself.) the body’s vibration and return it to its “optimum”, healthy vibration. They are wonderful, useful tools for use in Sound-healing, and we suggest that they be used in conjunction with other instruments such as singing bowls and more importantly the voice and vocal harmonics (overtone chant).

Each instrument has a different effect on the human system, so it’s good to keep things simple at first. If you already have or wish to acquire a fork or set of forks, have fun and enjoy experimenting with them on yourself before trying them on anyone else. For those who are sensitive to sound and vibration, the sensations evoked and created by the forks can be very strong. As with all therapeutic tools, it is wise to go slowly, taking note of any changes or improvement in one’s condition.

It is important to remember that the tuning forks are tools, and all tools can be used in many ways that may be completely original. We always encourage students to follow their intuition and their own inner ‘knowing’ when using the forks, and never to limit themselves to someone else’s system or structure. As an introduction to the healing power of Sound, the forks are practical and enjoyable to use. They can assist one to develop the confidence to try other sound tools such as the voice.

I (Caroline) personally use the forks from AromaSounds. I encourage you to do your research before your buy your forks. Please choose the best you can afford, as the cheaper ones will not hold their 'note' and will lose their healing resonance
